The Gujarat High Court heard a plea on Thursday to quash complaints filed against Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan over a case dating back to 2017. During promotions of his film Raees, fans showed up in large numbers at the Vadodara railway station in Gujarat. Amidst the frenzy, a stampede broke out and a man reportedly died at the event. It is also known that the crowd got out of control and authorities had to be deployed with lathis to curb the chaos when Shah Rukh Khan arrived on the scene.

The Raees promotion tour went from Mumbai to Delhi. When it was announced that he will be stopping at Vadodara, fans arrived in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the actor as they normally do. The tragic incident raised complaints although Shah Rukh Khan had nothing to do with the tragic death reported from the station. The plea in question says that the actor was not linked to the death and argued that the deceased was suffering from a heart condition. Gujarat High Court has maintained that an apology would suffice instead of a trial in the case. As per reports in the Times of India, the court had been adjourned for another hearing on February 24.

The case from 2017 has resurfaced after the court announced a stay on Shah Rukh Khan’s trial following the promotion of Raees. As per Livelaw reports, the actor did not step onto the railway station platform and only interacted with fans by waving from the train. It remains to be seen if he will be asked to issue an apology.

Raees was released in January 2017.
