Amid its ongoing probe by the Competition Commission of India (CCI), Google has proposed to open the Play Store to more real money gaming apps. The Silicon Valley search engine giant is currently facing an anti-trust case with WinZO, a gaming platform. While the company had earlier announced to expand support for real-money gaming apps for India, Mexico, and Brazil, in January 2024, the plans were paused in June 2024.
Per the CCI statement regarding Google’s commitment, the company stated that it will consolidate a proper business model for real-money game developers. Google also proposed to display ads for “games of skill,” provided the app maker submits proofs by a third party that it is not a game of gambling. The third party recognized for the purpose includes All India Gaming Federation, E-Gaming Federation, or the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports.
