Having released on April 10, Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda starrer Jaat has been doing extremely well in the cinemas. In just 8 days, it has crossed Rs 61 crore at the box-office collection. While the film is being lauded by the critics as well as the audience, it has now gotten into trouble for its controversial church scene, which has hurt the religious sentiments of Christians. Days after protesting against the film’s screening, an FIR has been lodged against the actors.
According to an ETimes report, the complaint is filed with the Jalandhar police. They claimed that a scene in the film has offended the Christian community under the section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). For those who don’t know, in the particular scene Randeep’s character is standing inside a church beneath a crucifix placed above a sacred pulpit, while the members of the congregation are seen praying. It is to be noted that the scene was also included in the trailer.

The complainant stated that the scene depicts hooliganism and intimation inside the church. Quoted by the publication, the complainant said, “The director, writer and producer deliberately released this film during the holy month of Good Friday and Easter so that the Christians get angry and riots break out in the entire country and unrest is spread.”
It was just earlier in the week that representatives from the community had submitted a memorandum to the Joint Commissioner, demanding a ban on the screening of the film in the theatres.
Released on April 10, 2025, Jaat is directed by Tollywood filmmaker Gopichand Malineni. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the songs of the film are composed by Thaman S. The film stars Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Viineet Kumar Siingh, Regina Cassandra, Ramya Krishnan, Saiyami Kher, and Swarupa Ghosh among many others.
