Can you spot Albania on a map? The Balkan nation scripted history by deploying the first AI minister, dubbed Diella, to oversee public procurement in the country. Albania’s president, Edi Rama, during his deliberation at the Socialist Party Assembly in Tirana on Thursday, declared the designations of various ministers and their profiles. During the announcement, the Albanian president introduced Diella as a virtual minister created with AI. Rama remarked that Diella will handle the tenders, ensuring they are 100% corruption-free.
Dressed in traditional attire, the AI minister powers the e-Albania platform. Will the contractors override the AI and undercut competition with unethical practices? Only time will tell.
Albania has become the first country in the world to have an AI minister — not a minister for AI, but a virtual minister made of pixels and code and powered by artificial intelligence.https://t.co/RxSeBbF8aJ

Breaking. Albania is the first country in the world to now have a ministry run by an AI-run “minister”, with an avatar named Diella. Ministry will be focused on e-governance and virtual support for citizens. pic.twitter.com/pLPFvP0puV

While AI has been deployed at scale across the world in corporations, its utility as a minister doesn’t exactly seem groundbreaking. Even so should we be worried? Until AGI arrives there’s no need to panic about the machines taking over. Most probably they already might have, while we are plugged into the matrix.
