After Shopify, Duolingo, Fiverr CEO Warns Of AI Based Layoffs: ‘It Does Not Matter If You Are Programmer Or Designer

Micha Kaufman, the founder and CEO of freelance platform Fiverr, shot an email in early April 2025 reminding his staff of the coming AI jobocalypse.

The mail has recently gone viral on social media after Shopify and Duolingo’s bosses issued a similar warning on AI. The email was sent early morning on April 7th with a preface to the message, dropping truth bombs. Kaufman stated in the mail that he despises sugar-coating reality “to avoid unpleasant truth.” He continues

So here is the unpleasant truth: AI is coming for your job. Heck, it’s coming for my job too. This is a wake-up call. It does not matter if you are a programmer, designer, product manager, data scientist, lawyer, customer support rep, salesperson, or finance person – AI is coming for you!

He further adds poignantly

You must understand that what was once considered an ‘easy task’ will no longer exist; what were considered ‘hard tasks’ will be the new easy, and what were considered ‘impossible tasks’ will be the new hard.

Kaufman suggests becoming exceptional as a talent to survive the AI onslaught or risk fading away into oblivion along with those who never give heed. The Fiverr CEO further remarked in 7 pointers how to stay afloat in the new reality at the dawn of the AI revolution across every domain.

  1. Study and master the latest AI in accordance with your domain.

  2. Connect with a domain expert.

  3. Don’t work like 2024 in the AI era, as time is of the essence.

  4. Google is dead, LLMs are in; hence, study prompt engineering.

  5. Contribute to the success of the organization deploying AI.

  6. Pitch ideas proactively.

  7. Create opportunities yourself rather than waiting for them to land on a silver platter.
