Luigi Mangione comes from a very affluent family in Maryland with Italian ancestry. His mother, Kathleen Mangione, hails from a prominent Italian American family in town. Kathleen’s father, Joseph N. Zannino Jr., reportedly founded a funeral home in the Highlandtown neighborhood of East Baltimore.
Meanwhile, Luigi’s father, Louis Mangione’s father, Nicholas Mangione, was a renowned businessman in town who begat 10 children, of whom five were daughters. One of Nicholas’s 37 grandchildren, Antonia Nino Mangione is an American politician and currently a member of the Maryland House of Delegates.
Per a BBC report, the Mangione family is one of the most respected Italian American families in the area. They are known for power and philanthropy.
Luigi’s parental grandfather Nicholas was not born into wealth. His life started in a poor immigrant Italian family that dwelled eight years in a one-room flat before moving out. Nicholas later served in the Navy during the second world war. He passed away in 2008 not before making generational wealth for his family.
