Foldable iPhone Launch Date Hinted By Samsung OLED Production Plans

While Samsung has steadily released foldable devices, Apple fans have been eagerly awaiting the company’s entry into the market. Leaks suggest that Apple is actively developing a foldable iPhone, potentially launching next year alongside the iPhone 18 series. True to Apple’s secretive style, the company has neither confirmed nor denied the project, leaving fans without official updates, until recent hints from suppliers and production plans started pointing toward its development.

Ironically, it is Samsung, Apple’s biggest competitor, that has revealed clues about Apple’s foldable iPhone plans. According to South Korea’s Chosun Biz, a key Samsung executive confirmed work on a new foldable device likely intended for Apple. This marks one of the first strong hints about the long-rumored device from official industry sources.

Lee Cheong, president of Samsung Display, confirmed that the company is preparing to mass-produce an 8.6-inch OLED display and additional OLED components for foldable phones to be supplied to a “North American client.” While he did not explicitly name Apple, the timing and details strongly point toward the iPhone maker.

The first foldable iPhone is rumored to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover screen, along with an advanced hinge mechanism designed to create a crease-free fold—a common issue in current-generation foldables. The device is said to be inspired by the iPhone Air, offering a slim design with a 9mm thickness when folded and 4.5mm when unfolded.

Specifications reportedly include a titanium frame and the upcoming A20 processor, with Touch ID replacing the current-generation Face ID. The design and hardware aim to combine durability, sleekness, and performance, positioning Apple’s foldable iPhone as a premium entrant in the growing foldable smartphone market.

Apple has reportedly started talks with suppliers to set up a test production line in Taiwan, with plans to mass-produce its foldable iPhone in India, according to Nikkei Asia. The device is expected to carry a premium price of $2,000–$2,500, targeting the high end of the market. Despite the cost, analysts predict strong demand among Apple enthusiasts if quality standards are met. Ming-Chi Kuo also anticipates a second-generation foldable iPhone in 2027, with total foldable iPhone shipments reaching 20 million units by that year.
