Taking X, the filmmaker captioned the announcement poster, “In the shadows of gods, rose the brightest flame of rebellion 🔥Presenting The Enigmatic #AkshayeKhanna as the eternal ‘Asuraguru SHUKRACHARYA’ from #Mahakali 🔱❤️🔥@PujaKolluru @RKDStudios #RKDuggal #RiwazRameshDuggal @ThePVCU.”
In the poster, Akshaye looks recognisable as the enigmatic Asuraguru Shukracharya. With long grey hair, cascading past his shoulders, a heavy beard, and a thick moustache, he looks directly into the camera as one of his eyes shines. As soon as the poster was unveiled, netizens immediately compared his look to Amitabh Bachchan’s character Ashwatthama in Kalki 2898 AD. Others gushed about how unrecognizable he looked in the poster.

One wrote, “Aurangzeb who bro meet the real villain of this whole universe.” Another wrote, “Honestly still I’m not recognised him even after reading his name.” One stated, “Akshaye Khanna To Amitabh Bachchan ka kaam chin lege😂” Another stated, “Bilkul pehchan main nahi aa raha and that’s what a good actor can do 👌” It is to be noted that the movie marks his debut in the Telugu film industry.
Opening up about his character, a source close to the production told Hindustan Times, “All we could reveal was that his role would add intrigue and depth to the growing PVCU universe. His role would span across multiple films in the franchise and would prove to be an exciting addition. We were hoping Mahakali would be received as well as HanuMan was.”
On the work front, Akshaye Khanna was last seen on the big screen as the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in Laxman Utekar’s movie Chhaava, co-starring Vicky Kaushal. He will be next seen in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and others.
