Hilton Opens Palacio de Godoy Cáceres, Curio Collection, in Spain’s UNESCO World Heritage City

Hilton has officially opened Palacio de Godoy Cáceres, Curio Collection by Hilton, following the restoration of a 16th-century landmark originally built in 1563 as the residence of Spanish conquistador Francisco Godoy. The debut introduces Hilton’s lifestyle brand to Cáceres, one of Spain’s best-preserved historical cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The hotel’s narrative draws from Extremadura’s role in the conquest of the Americas, weaving history and culture into its design and guest experiences. Cáceres, known for its coexistence of Jewish, Muslim, and Christian traditions, is famed for its cobblestone streets, preserved buildings, and cinematic appeal—it has served as a backdrop for numerous historical films.

Historic Restoration Meets Modern Luxury

The 73-room property blends heritage with contemporary comforts. Guests can enjoy function rooms, the Bar Virú, a rooftop bar overlooking the old city and surrounding countryside, a spa, and Mamay Aldana, the hotel’s signature restaurant.

Under the leadership of Chef Antonio Manuel Céspedes Rodríguez, Mamay Aldana pays tribute to the mothers of Extremadura, honoring the culinary traditions and cultural fusions that trace back to the conquest era. The restaurant is also a nod to Francisco Godoy’s mother, María de Aldana, and the former maternity home that once occupied the hotel’s grounds.

The restoration project was led by BSV Arquitectos, while Álvaro de la Rosa designed the gardens, which are nourished by water flowing from the rock beneath Cáceres. Native Spanish plants are paired with American species, evoking the 16th- and 17th-century gardens of Lima.

“We are delighted to open the doors to Palacio de Godoy Caceres,” Joaquin Arimón, the hotel’s general manager, said in a statement. “It’s a truly remarkable building which has been intricately restored and we are confident that guests will be amazed by its stylish interiors and relaxing outdoor spaces. Palacio de Godoy Caceres will also suit discerning travelers looking for unique hotels in lesser-known locations. With a rich culture and historical architecture, the UNESCO-listed Old Town of Caceres is the perfect location for our latest Curio Collection by Hilton property, and we look forward to welcoming guests to the hotel.”
