Alia Bhatt’s Mother Slammed For Pushing ‘Peace’ Petition Amid India-Pak Tensions, Netizens Say ‘She’s British’

Soni Razdan, the mother of Alia Bhatt, recently used her Instagram account to promote a peace-seeking petition initiated by Indian and Pakistani activists. Titled ‘India, Pakistan: Stop the hostilities,’ the petition calls for both nuclear-armed nations to avoid declaring war on each other.

Amid the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Soni’s Instagram post sparked significant backlash from a large segment of Indian social media users. Soni shared the petition on her Instagram, captioning it, “Above all – PEACE. Sign the petition. Link in bio.” The petition, hosted on Change.org, has garnered over four thousand verified signatures.

However, many netizens have taken to social media to criticize Razdan for promoting it. Although a Reddit post inaccurately claimed that Soni initiated the petition, users heavily trolled her for sharing it on her platform.

One Reddit user commented, “Oh, I didn’t know it takes a petition to make Pakistan stop attacking Indian civilians, else we all have done this long back. Why are Indian forces wasting all the money and risking their lives to save people? They should just sign her petition.” Another user remarked, “As if that is going to accomplish anything.” A third user sarcastically wrote, “Oh no. She has spoken. Everybody, it’s over. There’s an online petition now!” Another comment mockingly stated, “Everybody is like – it’s Alia’s mother and Mahesh Bhatt Ji’s wife, so let’s stop this war.” One user added, “Indian Army better buck up if they want to win this war. Once Soni Razdan reaches 1000 signatures, the Indian Army will have to retreat cos of her pressure.”

Regarding the petition itself, it was launched by Indian and Pakistani activists who declared on the Change.org website, “We, peace activists from India, Pakistan and elsewhere, categorically condemn every form of violent extremism and terrorism. We particularly condemn the targeting of unarmed civilians, for any reason, including as a means to achieve political ends.” They further emphasized, “India and Pakistan must behave responsibly. Any war between these two nuclear-armed nations would be disastrous. As history shows, it is ordinary citizens who suffer the most in conflict, especially women, children, minorities, the elderly, and other vulnerable communities forced to prove their patriotism. We therefore urge the people of India and Pakistan to hold their governments accountable and resist any speech or action that feeds war hysteria,” they also mentioned.
