Land Rover has officially launched the highly anticipated Defender Octa in India, positioning it as the most powerful member of the Defender family. With a starting price of Rs 2.59 crore (ex-showroom), the Defender Octa is set to deliver an unmatched blend of performance and off-road prowess. For those looking to own a more exclusive version, the Defender Octa Edition One, available during the first year of production, is priced at Rs 2.79 crore (ex-showroom). The order books for this exceptional SUV will open soon, giving off-road enthusiasts the chance to own one of the most capable vehicles on the market.
Under the hood, the Defender Octa boasts a 4.4-litre twin-turbo mild-hybrid V8 engine that produces a staggering 626bhp and 750Nm of peak torque. This power allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 4 seconds, a remarkable feat for a vehicle of its size. A standout feature is the new Octa mode, a performance-driven off-road setting designed to optimize traction, braking, and acceleration, making it perfect for challenging surfaces like sand or gravel.
In terms of design, the Defender Octa makes a bold statement. It has been raised by 28mm in ride height and widened by 68mm, providing a total ground clearance of 323mm. These changes, along with redesigned bumpers for improved approach and departure angles, ensure that the Defender Octa can conquer any terrain. Its impressive wading depth of one metre also makes it capable of driving through deep water without hesitation.
The Defender Octa rides on new 33-inch tyres, the largest ever fitted to a production Defender, which have led to extended wheel arches and a refreshed front bodywork. The redesigned grille allows better airflow under the bonnet, and the rear bumper now features a four-exit active exhaust system. Tough underbody protection, including an aluminium alloy front under shield with a graphite finish, adds to its rugged look, while Phosphor Bronze-finished front and rear recovery points enhance its capability.
For those who love personalization, the Defender Octa offers two new metallic paint options, Petra Copper and Faroe Green, along with classic choices like Carpathian Grey and Charente Grey. All models feature a contrast roof and tailgate in gloss Narvik Black, and further customization options are available.
Inside, the Defender Octa boasts a luxurious and advanced cabin. It offers two Ultrafabrics PU options, which are 30% lighter than traditional leather, along with Burnt Sienna semi-aniline leather and Kvadrat textile trim in Ebony. A first for the Defender family, the Octa introduces immersive Body and Soul Seat audio technology. The front seats are designed for performance with integrated headrests and more supportive bolsters, while the Body and Soul seats incorporate transducers that deliver high-fidelity tactile audio for an enhanced experience.
The Defender Octa Edition One takes things a step further with exclusive Faroe Green paint, a Khaki and Ebony interior, Chopped Carbon Fibre detailing, and 20-inch forged alloy wheels. It’s clear that the Defender Octa isn’t just a vehicle, it’s a bold statement of luxury, power, and adventure.
