Months after its release, my obsession with Squid Game continues. The Korean survival thriller broke multiple records and bagged a bunch of awards within a very short span of time. The highly addictive series features Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, HoYeon Jung and more in a show that turned childhood games into deadly matches – a magnificent commentary on social and economic inequality in a capitalist society. It was bound to come back for another season. And that’s exactly what we’re getting. Netflix has officially confirmed that Squid Game Season 2 has been greenlit.

Netflix’s co-Chief Executive and Content Officer Red Sarandos has confirmed that the Korean show will return for Season 2. When asked about the sequel during an earnings call he said “Absolutely, The Squid Game universe has just begun.” (via Variety)

The comment not only gives fans exactly what they want, but it also hints at a whole universe. Looks like the Squid Game extended universe is going to be a thing and we’re getting a lot more than the upcoming instalment. Not long ago the show’s director Hwang Dong-hyuk had revealed that the show has to come back saying that fans “leave them us no choice.”

Now Squid Game‘s initial run ended on a cliff-hanger. Lee Jung-jae’s Seong Gi-hun with his hair dyed red is on his way to board a flight to go see his daughter in the U.S. but decides to turn back home likely to act about the information he has on the organisers of the deadly games. We already know that the next season or seasons are going to Gi-hun centric which almost guarantees an epic follow-up.
