In his recent gig at the East Point group of institutions, Sonu Nigam was miffed at students interrupting the show, asking him to sing in Kannada.
The 51-year-old Indian playback singer remarked,
I sing in all languages. The best songs that are certain in my life are Kannada songs. Aur main jab bhi aata bade pyaar se aata hu. Mai shows toh roz karta hu lekin jab kabhi Karnataka mein kahnin bhi show hota hai toh hum bahot izzat se aate hai. Aap logon ko maine Parivar maana hai.
(Whenever I arrive here in Karnataka, I come with oodles of admiration and love. I treat you as my family)
Nigam continued
Mujhe achha nahi laga vahan pe ek ladka
jo uski umar nahi hogi us se Pehle se mai Kannada gana ga raha hu
aur vo yahan pe mujhe so rudely threatened me
KANNADA KANNADA KANNADA
yehi karan hai Pahalgam mein jo hua hai na
yahi karan hai jo kar rahe ho yahan pe
(I did not like it when this lad… I have been singing since even before he was in a crib… And he had the audacity to rudely threaten me, saying, Kannada, Kannada, Kannada. This is the very reason the Pahalgam tragedy happened.)
He further added
I love Kannadigas. I love you guys. Mai poori duiya mein Jahan bhi jata hu, mai aapko bata du sabko bolta hu mai, chahe main Australia jaun, ya India mein kisi kone mein jaun, 14,000 ki audience hoti hai usme ek aadmi hota hai jo ‘KANNADAAAA’
Unke liye. Us ek Kannadiga ke liye kuch toh line mai Kannadiga mein gata hu. Mai aplogon ki izzat karta hu.
(Wherever I go in the world, even if there’s one audience amongst a crowd of 14,000, requesting a Kannada number, I respectfully oblige.)
