Former chairman of the United Spirits, 69-year-old Vijay Vittal Malya, who fled India in 2012 after committing economic offenses to the tune of Rs 90 billion. Extradition efforts to bring the absconder have failed over the years, as the former owner of Bengaluru’s IPL franchise has repeatedly denied the allegation.
A consortium of 17 banks led by the SBI bank also attempted to gain possession of one of his lavish properties in London to no avail. His financial crime led to the grounding of the Kingfisher Airlines fleet, with several staff becoming jobless overnight. The tragedy and trauma for them continues as the King of Good Times lives a lavish life overseas.
