Singer Lata Mangeshkar, who was admitted to a hospital last month passed away on Sunday morning. While the news rattled the entire nation, PM Narendra Modi, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, and many other renowned names took to their respective social media handles to mourn the loss of the legendary singer.
Dr Pratit Samdani, who was treating Lata Mangeshkar at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, in an interaction with reporters outside the hospital stated that the singer died due to multi-organ failure. “It is with profound grief that we announce the sad demise of #LataMangeshkar at 8:12 am. She has died because of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalisation post COVID19,” Samdani said.

While the shocking news sent a sad wave across the country, PM Modi mourned the loss of the legendary singer. “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people”, he tweeted.

Known as the Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar was honoured with several prestigious awards like the Bharat Ratna and many others for her contribution to Indian music.
While the legendary singer left for the heavenly abode on Sunday morning, sister Usha Mangeshkar confirmed that Lata Mangeshkar’s mortal remains will be taken to Shivaji Park for her fans to pay homage. Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray also confirmed that the legendary singer’s funeral will be performed with full state honours.
