
The highly anticipated Globetrotter event was held at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad on November 15. Filmmaker Rajamouli revealed the title of the film, ‘Varanasi’, introducing the upcoming project that stars Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Earlier, the looks of the antagonist Sukumaran as Kumbha and PCJ’s Mandakini were revealed on social media. On the teaser release day, the look of Mahesh Babu as Rudhra was unveiled in the grand event.
Varanasi Teaser: First Footage Unveiled
The skies above the Ramoji Film City was filled with the rorar of thousands of full-throated Mahesh Babu fans chanting ‘Jai Babu’ as the title reveal event got off a grand start. PCJ plays the character of Mandakini alongside Mahesh Babu as Rudhra. Before the event, it was the distinctive necklace and pendant featuring Lord Shiva’s trishul and Nandi that stole the attention. The pendant has since fueled speculation about possible mythological influences in Rajamouli’s upcoming epic. The teaser further intensified it.
The Varanasi event, previously called the GlobeTrotter event, set the stage for a grand title reveal. While the teaser reveal took a couple of tries to get going as fans waited patiently, the teaser revealed new details as it was unveiled on a massive outdoot LED screen. The director further stated that the film in a first for India’s movie industry, will be filmed specifically to be shown on IMAX screens.
The teaser opens in 512 CE in an ancient kingdom called Varanasi. We then jump forward to the year 2071 as meteors fall from the sky. Meanwhile, a visual of Antarctica shows explorers searching for an abandoned ship frozen in an ice berg. The video then cuts to Africa and flaunts some incredible CGI, depicting the animal kingdom. The next scene moves the action to an underground Ugrabhatti cave in Vanaanchal, where a woman is seen falling amid a deity of the goddess Kali. Above ground, a group of soldiers forms a giant tower of men, with one soldier at the top pointing his bow and arrow. Finally, we see Mahesh Babu riding on a bull and wielding a trident against the backdrop of ancient pyramids.

It must be noted that Varanasi is currently filming and is slated to release in theaters worldwide in 2027. Meanwhile, for fans who couldn’t attend the mega event, it was live-streamed on JioHotstar and on the YouTube channel of US publication Variety, giving global audiences a first look at Rajamouli’s next cinematic experience.
