Six Senses London Opens at The Whiteley

Six Senses has opened its first hotel in the United Kingdom inside The Whiteley, a restored former department store on Bayswater’s Queensway, bringing 109 rooms and a 25,000-square-foot spa to a building that dates to the Victorian era.

The property, which is part of IHG’s luxury portfolio, occupies a portion of a mixed-use redevelopment that spans more than one million square feet and sits within a broader £3 billion regeneration of the Queensway corridor near Hyde Park and Notting Hill.

Six Senses London‘s Grade II listed Art Deco façade has been preserved, and its original grand staircase — a signature feature of the old department store — was deconstructed, extended and rebuilt by hand in Devon by Foster + Partners. It now rises three floors to a glass-domed ceiling.

The spa includes London’s first hotel magnesium pool, a 20-meter indoor swimming pool, a 3,500-square-foot fitness center, and treatment rooms offering cryotherapy, flotation, red-light therapy and a traditional hammam. A dedicated longevity clinic on the first floor, operated by HUM2N, provides blood diagnostics, IV nutrient therapy and hormone optimization protocols.

The hotel’s 109 rooms and suites — many with private terraces — are joined by 14 branded residences. A penthouse suite features a 1,345-square-foot rooftop terrace.

Food and beverage operations are led by Executive Chef Eliano Crespi and Head Chef Jose Jara, whose menus center on vegetable-forward, fire-led cooking supported by an in-house fermentation lab. The property also houses what Six Senses calls its first “Six Senses Place,” a members’ social and wellness club.

The hotel operates without single-use plastics and includes rainwater harvesting and more than 12,380 square feet of green roof space. Six Senses says the project has created more than 300 jobs across hospitality, wellness and culinary roles.

Six Senses London follows recent brand openings in Rome and Kyoto. IHG acquired Six Senses in 2019.
