Sigríður Margrét Oddsdóttir has been appointed CEO of Blue Lagoon, effective March 16, 2026. Grímur Sæmundsen, who has been CEO of Blue Lagoon since its establishment in 1992, will then step down but will take a seat on the company’s board of directors at the next annual general meeting.
“We welcome Sigríður Margrét to the company. I believe this is the right time for the company and me to step aside as CEO and entrust others to tackle the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. I look forward to working with Sigríður Margrét,” Sæmundsen said in a statement.
“I consider it a great opportunity to lead the operations of Blue Lagoon in collaboration with the company’s board of directors and the excellent team that works at the company…I see countless opportunities in the company’s operations and in Icelandic tourism, which will be very interesting and fun to deal with in the coming years,” said Oddsdóttir.
Around 800 employees work at Blue Lagoon. The company’s operations include the destination of the same name and related activities in Reykjanes, including The Retreat and Silica Hotel. The company also owns and operates Highland Base in Kerlingarfjöll, and is building a bathing resort, hotel and comprehensive tourism services in Þjórsárdalur.
Additionally, the company is preparing the development of Hoffell in Hornafjörður. The company also has a stake in the bathing facilities Fontana at Laugarvatn, Jarðböður at Mývatn, Sjóböður in Húsavík and Vök in Egilsstaðir. The company has also developed and built the skincare company Blue Lagoon Skincare, which is now taking its first steps towards international growth in that field.
