AI imagery is a menace. It’s not only stealing illustrators and other artists’ jobs; it has made some niche, high-paying creative gigs sort of redundant – like food photography. While everyone can’t afford it, a simple pic from a smartphone with proper composition and lighting does a decent job. But thousands of restaurants, including some fancy ones, make do without one. These slacking eateries that usually plagiarize images from Pinterest or Google Images have now found an easy fix – ChatGPT (or Midjourney, Grok, Gemini, and the like).
A Swiggy user recently shared an image of a ‘dragon chicken’ dish they bumped into on the Swiggy app. The thumbnail of the dish reveals creepy organic stuffing on a distorted platter that is straight out of a nightmare. The user wrote, “Just realized Swiggy has started auto-generating food pictures.”
While there’s no official statement of whether Swiggy deploys AI-generated automated food pics for restaurants that won’t, the watermark on the pic entitled ‘representative’ is just peak humor.

Meanwhile, users on social media reacted to the AI abomination. One user commenting on the outcome of the prompt for Dragon Chicken quipped, “Mission failed successfully.” Another user remarked, “On the other hand, going to Hokkaido – Alwarpet’s page on Swiggy shows a pic of paper roast dosai for most Japanese dishes.” One user jibed, “Chicken sourced from Chernobyl.”
