‘Saare Jahan Se Achha…’ Salman Khan Drops A Musical Tribute On 79th Independence Day: Watch

“Saare jahan se achha. Hindustan Hamara.”

Salman Khan, aka Bollywood’s Bhaijaan, dropped a musical tribute on the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day. The monochrome clip shows the Dabangg (2010) star singing the anthem of the people of Hindustan, aka Tranah-e-Hind, penned by Allama Mohammad Iqbal, which was published on 16 August 1904.

This patriotic song was written in Urdu for children in ghazal style. The opening verse of the song is one of the most popular patriotic lines that has transcended from politics to pop culture. Reportedly it was one of the few songs sung by Mahatma Gandhi several times during his imprisonment at the Yerawada Jail in Pune. Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to reach space in 1984 sang the song when Indira Gandhi asked what India looked like from up there.

Another line from the poem “Mazhab nahi sikhata aapas mein bair rakhna,” or “Religion does not teach harboring hatred among ourselves,” has also been quoted often by leaders and luminaries invoking teh spirit of secularism.

Meanwhile Bollywood’s Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan took to X/Twitter and posted a picture with his son from Mannat, where the Tricolor was hoisted. He remarked,

Our Independence is our greatest gift… a key to our progress. Let’s keep our heads held high and hearts open. Happy Independence Day to all of us… Jai Hind!”
