The biggest shock to the MCU fans was the revelation of Victor von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, to be essayed by Tony Stark/Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr., a character that paid the price of stopping Thanos from annihilating the universe. Doctor Doom was teased in the recently released The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) movie. While fans await the return of their beloved actor (albiet in a new avatar) in Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026, Marvel has excited everyone with its latest announcement—“Avengers: Endgame—Back in theaters, September 2026.”
Endgame, which was released in 2019 was the direct sequel to Avengers: Infinity War (2018), which saw Thanos (Josh Brolin) blip half the universe, including several superheroes. One of the most expensive movies to be produced, the Russo Bros.’ directorial made a box office record by joining the ranks of Avatar (2009) to make over $2 billion. The theatrical re-release of the 22nd MCU movie in September 2026 will only add to its gross earnings.
With the Netflix acquisition of Warner Brothers Discovery at $82.7 billion triggering paranoia about the future of theaters, the re-release of one of the most cherished Avenger’s movies has rekindled hope amongst cinema goers.
