So when Lucky Ali announced his India tour, you know the crowd is going to boast fans in their 30s, reliving their good ol’ days, singing “Kitni Hasi Zindagi” in unison. Sunday evening struck all the right notes of nostalgia for Mumbaikars as the singer was at the final leg of Re:Sound India Tour at the Dome SVP Stadium in Worli, Mumbai. With tickets available on Bookmyshow and Black & White as their presenter, SVP Dome hosted fans in thousands, ready to immerse in a soulful evening. Singers Arham Fulfagar and Samad Khan opened the show, setting the stage for Ali. Soon, as the “O Sanam” hitmaker took over the stage, he transported the audience to the beautiful era of Indie pop. The 67-year-old further revealed that he has been under the weather, while wittingly asking the crowd about Mumbai’s concerning air quality. With favourites like “Kitni Haseen Zindagi,” “Kyun Chalti Hai Pawan” and more, Ali’s music had the entire auditorium spellbound.
Holding glasses of Black & White Non-Alcoholic Carbonated Beverages, the crowd swayed and sang along in unison, completely immersed in the moment. As the night progressed, the energy kept soaring, culminating in a euphoric finale as Ali belted out crowd favourite “O Sanam.” Fans attended the concert from every corner of the city, braving the traffic, only to cheer on their favourite singer and relive his timeless songs.
Lucky Ali’s music embedded in memory proves the power of his music. Most of us had no clue what Indie pop meant as a genre until Ali’s cassettes became a part of our lives. A career spanned across decades, it is an interesting observation that, unlike the many new crop of singers, relying on auto-tune and some even lip-syncing during live performances, Ali is one simple man, a meticulous artist who performs for everyone who just wants to listen. Be it at a concert or impromptu singing at cafes in Goa, striking a nostalgic sensation like no other.
We all have that one Lucky Ali song for special moments in our lives. At the final leg of his India Tour, the singer doesn’t need any introduction. He is and always will be a part of our “Safarnama.”
