In his recent remark regarding the Trump tariff war, India’s Minister of Industry and Supply, Piyush Goyal, blamed China for Washington’s economic crusade against the world at large. He remarked,
“If somebody were to ask me what would be the trigger point of where we are today and why we are going through this churn, the starting point of this actually goes to the beginning of 2000, when China was admitted as a member of the WTO.”
The comment has not gone down well with our padosis, as experts across the border slammed Goyal for his remark. Per a report published in the Global Times, a professor of international relations at Sichuan International Studies University, Mr. Long Xingchun, quipped, “The Indian minister, by shifting all the blame onto China, is trying to gain exemptions from the US.” Another professor at Tsinghua University, who teaches Indian Studies, Mr. Xie Chao, echoed similar sentiments. He remarked, “India seems to be attempting to take advantage of the situation.”
Meanwhile, in other interviews, Mr. Goyal stuck by his words that the tariff war is an opportunity for India. He remarked.
It opens a huge opportunity. Everybody is excited. We stand in very different times. The world is going through turbulence in the next two and a half decades. We have an opportunity of a lifetime. And if each one of us seizes this moment. India is unstoppable.
