Praise Khonshu! Marvel and Disney Plus dropped the official trailer of Moon Knight, the next hotly-anticipated series joining MCU’s phase 4 line-up, during the NFL Wild Card game on the first full moon night of the year. The series debuts the intriguing comic book anti-hero and marks award-winning actor Oscar Isaac‘s entry into the MCU. Isaac plays a superhero with disassociative identity disorder (DID). The chaotic trailer introduces him as Steven Grant, a “mild-mannered gift-shop employee”. And it’s already shaping up to be the darkest origin story yet.

The series is written by Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy) and directed by Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab. The trailer reveals Oscar Isaac suiting up as Moon Knight and Ethan Hawke’s mysterious villain act. In it, Steven Grant is seen having many sleepless nights as he struggles to differentiate between dreams and reality. In the comic books, Marc Spector is his most popular alter ego – a billionaire who gets his powers from the Egyptian God Khonshu. The latest footage mentions Marc, likely teasing the possibility of multiple identities while Hawke’s character urges Steven to “embrace the chaos”.

Marvel also revealed the release date of Moon Knight. The show will premiere on Disney+ on March 30, 2022. Check out the trailer below:

Here’s everything we know so far:

Moon Knight’s official synopsis reads – The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

Moon Knight is perhaps the most complex character joining the MCU. Comic book storylines offer a slew of identities and between the initial teaser, posters and the trailer, the plot is still vague. While Marc Spector is a billionaire, the series synopsis describes him as a mercenary. It’s likely that Marvel will take liberties with the character’s origin story. Speaking of, the trailer offers little explanation of how Steven Grant becomes a superhero. But, it offers our closest look by far at Oscar Isaac suiting up as the titular Moon Knight. Meanwhile, Ethan Hawke’s villain who appears in the second half of the trailer remains unnamed but according to YouTube’s closed captions, he plays Arthur Harrow – not the most popular comic book character who only has a single appearance in the comics. With weeks remaining for the release of the show, chances are we’ll have more information soon. For now, Marvel also dropped a new poster.

Moon Knight will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on March 30, 2022.
