Argentinian great Lionel Messi is in India for the GOAT tour. The first leg of the event in Kolkata, turned out to be chaotic, as fans gathered in huge numbers at the Salt Lake Stadium. Messi arrived at the venue and stayed for approximately 30 minutes according to reports before noon. He was supposed to take a full lap of the stadium, however due to chaos, the event was abandoned, leaving the fans furious, who couldn’t catch a glimpse of their soccer idol.

Visuals of fans vandalizing the stadium soon went viral. Several complained of the mismanagement by the organizers. The ardent fans of Messi shared their grievances to the reporters stating how they spent 12,000 for a ticket and yet couldn’t even see the 2022 World Cup winning squad’s captain. Several cried scam. One irate fan speaking with PTI quipped

“Here, a glass of cold drink costs Rs 150–200, yet we couldn’t even catch a glimpse of Messi. People have spent a month’s salary to see him. I paid Rs 5,000 for the ticket and came with my son to watch Messi not politicians. The police and military personnel were taking selfies, and the management is to blame. There wasn’t even drinking water available.”

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, CM Mamta Banerjee and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly who were previously a part of the event, did not arrive either.
