Instagram is shaking things up with a brand-new feature called Blend, and it’s all about making the Reels experience more personal, and more fun, between friends. Starting Thursday, the feature has begun rolling out to users, and it’s designed to create a shared, private feed where two people can explore Reels curated just for them.
Think of Blend like a private DM chat, but instead of just sharing posts back and forth, Instagram takes the lead by suggesting Reels based on both users’ activity. It’s a custom feed made for just two people, be it your best friend, sibling, or even your partner. Once someone sends a Blend invite and the other person accepts, the two get their own little corner on Instagram where they can discover content together.
Instagram has been working on this feature for over a year. Some users first noticed it in March 2024, and since then, the platform slowly opened access to more people before going live with a wider release.

To use Blend, all it takes is a quick invite to a friend. Once connected, any Reel that pops up in the Blend feed comes with a tag showing who it’s recommended for, adding a thoughtful, almost playlist-like vibe to the experience. It’s a great way to stay in touch, laugh over shared humor, or simply keep each other entertained without needing to constantly search and send links.
Replying is easy too. There’s a message bar right under each Reel, so you can drop a comment, send a quick reaction emoji, or spark a conversation without leaving the feed. A Blend icon also appears in your DMs, sitting right next to the video and audio call buttons, so it’s always just a tap away.
The best part? It’s private. Everything you see and share in a Blend stays between you and the person you’ve connected with. It’s not part of your story or your public feed, just a cozy, curated spot made for two.
By introducing Blend, Instagram is leaning into a more meaningful way of sharing content, one that goes beyond the typical scroll-and-like routine. Whether you’re bonding over memes or keeping up with each other’s interests, Blend offers a simple, fun way to stay connected, one Reel at a time.
