India’s WPI inflation falls to (-) 1.21% in October 2025

The annual rate of inflation based on all India wholesale price index (WPI) number is (-) 1.21 per cent (provisional) for the month of October 2025 (over October 2024), compared to 0.13 per cent registered in the previous month, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The month-over-month change in WPI for October 2025 stood at (-) 0.06 per cent as compared to September 2025.

India’s wholesale inflation fell to minus 1.21 per cent in October 2025, reversing the slight rise seen in September.
The overall WPI dipped marginally to 154.8, with primary articles declining and fuel and power rising.
Manufactured products eased slightly, though the textile and wearing apparel sub-indices recorded modest month-on-month gains.

“Negative rate of inflation in October 2025 is primarily due to decrease in prices of food articles, crude petroleum and natural gas, electricity, mineral oils and manufacture of basic metals etc,” the Office of the Economic Adviser, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said.

The official WPI for all commodities (Base: 2011-12 = 100) for October decreased to 154.8 from 154.9 in the previous month.

The index for manufactured products (weight 64.23 per cent) decreased by (-) 0.07 per cent from 145.2 for the month of September 2025 to 145.1 in October 2025. The index for ‘Manufacture of Textiles’ sub-group increased to 138.5 in October from 138.10 in September, while the index for ‘Manufacture of Wearing Apparel’ rose to 156.5 in October from 156.20 in September.

The index for primary articles (weight 22.62 per cent) decreased by 0.42 per cent from 189.0 for the month of September 2025 to 188.2 in October 2025, while that for fuel and power (weight 13.15 per cent) increased by 1.12 per cent from 143.4 for the month of September 2025 to 145.0 in October 2025.
