The products are 2,6-diethyl-N-(2-propoxyethyl) aniline , also known as PEDA, an industrial chemical used in the production of the agrochemical pretilachlor herbicide; acetonitrile, used in the pharmaceutical sector; vitamin-A palmitate, used in cosmetics and supplements; insoluble sulphur, used as a vulcanising agent in the rubber industry; decor paper, used to create quality finishes on wooden materials; and potassium tertiary butoxide, used as a catalyst in active pharmaceutical ingredients, other pharma processes, agro chemicals, speciality chemicals and polymers.
India has imposed five-year anti-dumping duties (ADD) on six chemical products from China and select other countries, including Russia, Taiwan, the European Union, Switzerland, Japan, the US, Iran and Qatar.
The affected imports include PEDA, acetonitrile, vitamin-A palmitate, insoluble sulphur, decor paper, and potassium tertiary butoxide.
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs under the department of revenue imposed the duties following recommendations from the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) under the Commerce Ministry.
While on PEDA, the duty on Chinese imports will range from $1,305.6 to $2,017.9 per tonne, a duty of up to $481 per tonne has been imposed on acetonitrile imported from China, Russia and Taiwan.
Similarly, the government has imposed a duty of up to $20.87 per kg duty on vitamin -A palmitate imported from China, the European Union and Switzerland; and up to $358 per tonne on import of insoluble sulphur from China and Japan.
Additional duties of up to $1,710 per tonne have been imposed on potassium tertiary butoxide from China and the United States.
On decor paper, the levy of up to $542 per tonne has been imposed on imports from China.
ADD has also been imposed on import of linear alkyl benzene (LAB) originating in, or exported from Iran and Qatar.
