Ind Vs SA: Virat Kohli Declared Player Of The Series As India Clinches Trophy With Win In The Final Match

India clinched the ODI series against South Africa by 2-1, with an emphatic win in the third match against the visitors, after a complete whitewash in the previous test series. The architect of the win was vintage Virat, slipping back into form with two consecutive record-shattering centuries in the previous matches and one unbeaten half-century in the last match. Kohli was declared the Player of the Series as well for his outstanding performance.

Earlier South Africa were wrapped up for a mere 270 in 47.5 overs. India achieved the score in 39.5 overs with Virat Kohli’s 76th fifty. The former Indian captain made 65 runs in 45 balls, smashing six 4s and three 6s at a strike rate of 144.44. On the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a brilliant 116 and was declared the Player of the Match. Rohit Sharma’s 75 set the foundation for a seamless start. Sharma also crossed the elusive 20,000 run mark, only the fourth Indian after Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid.

For Virat Kohli, this series win will be extra special after a rough patch on the pitch, followed by criticism and skepticism over his form.

Speaking of his performance Kohli stated

You have many phases where you feel doubt. You feel nervous, especially in batting, where one mistake can cost you. It’s a whole journey, getting better, becoming a better person. I can realize the negative thinking patterns; knowing and working on that helps the temperament. I’m glad to still be contributing to the team. When I play freely, I know I can hit sixes. Just wanted to push my boundaries and go well.”
