Hardik Pandya’s Painful 11-Ball Over Adds His Name To IPL’s Unwanted Records

In a tense IPL match on Tuesday at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya found himself on the wrong side of history. Known for his all-round skills, Pandya bowled an over that stretched to an unbelievable 11 deliveries, marking a rare feat in IPL history. His over, which included two no-balls and three wides, became a talking point for all the wrong reasons. He ended up conceding 18 runs in that over, making it the joint-highest number of deliveries ever bowled in a single over during the tournament.

Pandya’s over started out like any other, but soon spiraled out of control. After the first three legitimate deliveries, a series of wides and no-balls followed. Then, on the fourth legal ball, Shubman Gill struck a six, and the over kept going. By the time it ended, Pandya had bowled 11 balls in total, with one more wide and a dot ball to cap off his frustrating over. This put him in a select group of bowlers, alongside Mohammed Siraj, Tushar Deshpande, Shardul Thakur, and Sandeep Sharma, who have all bowled the joint-highest number of balls in an IPL over.

Unfortunately, Pandya’s struggles didn’t stop with the ball. When MI batted, they found themselves in a tough spot at 105/4 in the 12th over. The pressure was mounting, and Hardik, looking to turn the tide, tried to slog sweep Sai Kishore. However, his shot didn’t come off as planned, and he was dismissed, leaving MI in further trouble. It seemed like the team was heading toward a total well under 150.

Just when it seemed like MI might fall short, Corbin Bosch provided a spark of hope. Bosch’s timely hitting in the death overs lifted MI’s innings significantly. He smashed 27 runs off 22 balls, including some much-needed boundaries and sixes. His late surge helped Mumbai reach 155/8, a score that, at one point, looked highly unlikely. Bosch’s contribution gave MI something to defend, setting Gujarat a challenging target of 156 to chase.

While Hardik Pandya’s misfortune with the ball and bat was hard to ignore, it was Bosch’s timely intervention that gave MI a fighting chance in the match. The game served as a reminder of how cricket can change in the blink of an eye, where individual moments and unexpected heroics can flip the script entirely.
