After introducing the Sovereign race in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, James Gunn teased the audience by giving us all a glimpse of Adam Warlock, who is expected to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon. While Zac Efron was reported to be the frontrunner for the role, Gunn recently confirmed that Will Poulter has been cast as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
While Gunn returns to direct the third instalment of Marvel’s mischievous gang of intergalactic superheroes after a brief split with Disney, the ace filmmaker took to social media to confirm Poulter’s casting. “As you guys know I often strike down false rumors, so um welcome to the Guardians family, Will Poulter. He’s an amazing actor and wonderful guy. See you in a couple weeks. #AdamWarlock #GotGVol3,” Gunn tweeted.

With the production expected to begin in November, fans have been quite excited about the project and have been sharing fan theories with Gunn via Twitter. Recently, the GOTG director shared a screenshot of a fan, who has been sending him the same text for many years now. An avid Twitter user, Gunn recently even responded to a fan’s outcry, who declared that they will riot if Rocket dies. “I’m not saying anything about anything so don’t take this as insinuating anything about what’s going to happen in #Vol3,” Gunn responded.
I’m not saying anything about anything so don’t take this as insinuating anything about what’s going to happen in #Vol3 BUT I was threatened with, easily, 300 riots before #TheSuicideSquad was released & almost every character was killed & so far I’ve received exactly zero riots. https://t.co/EeXmBkQGYj

Coming back to Adam Warlock casting, another report suggested that Bridgerton star Rege-Jean Page and 1917’s George MacKay were also shortlisted by Marvel executives and Gunn, but eventually, Poulter’s test for the character was too good to pass up. Known for his stellar performances in The Revenant, The Maze Runner and other projects, it’ll be quite exciting to see Poulter step into the superhero’s shoes.
Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently scheduled to release on May 3, 2023, will feature Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Pom Klementieff and Bradley Cooper reprise their roles from the previous instalments.
