The 2026 Grammy nominations have turned into a proud moment for India as sitar maestro Anoushka Shankar secured her 11th Grammy nod. She has been nominated in the Best Global Performance category for Daybreak, a collaboration with her cousin Alam Khan and percussionist Sarathy Korwar. The 2026 Grammy nominations have sparked both celebration and surprise. Fans of Taylor Swift were disappointed as her latest album, Life of a Showgirl, missed the eligibility window. However, the biggest snubs of the year included Lorde’s bold album Virgin and The Weeknd’s absence from the nomination list altogether, both of which were widely acclaimed by critics and fans alike.

This year, Anoushka and her collaborators are also nominated for Best Global Album, alongside Sidhant Bhatia’s Sounds of Kumbh, which fuses ancient mantras with field recordings from Prayagraj. Another strong contender in the category is Shakti, the Indo-jazz fusion band led by John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, and Shankar Mahadevan, celebrating their 50th anniversary tour. Their song Sreeni’s Dream, a tribute to mandolin legend U. Srinivas, also earned a nomination for Best Global Performance.
In the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category, Madurai-born, New York-based pianist Charu Suri made headlines with Shayan (Sleep), a project that blends Indian classical ragas with jazz improvisation to promote rest and relaxation. Her unique sound places her among this year’s most intriguing Grammy nominees. The global music stage will converge at LA’s Crypto.com Arena on February 1, 2026, to honour these artists who continue to push cultural and creative boundaries.
