Dining With The Kapoors Review: Loud, Chaotic, But Loveable, Raj Kapoor’s Family Celebrates Him On His 100th Birthday

The first family of the Hindi film industry have all come under one roof to celebrate the legendary and iconic filmmaker Raj Kapoor’s 100th birthday. Netflix’s new documentary Dining With The Kapoors is hosted by Armaan Jain, where almost all generations of the late filmmaker come together to reminisce about the good old days. Having premiered on Friday, November 21, the chaotic family has finally arrived to entertain the audience.

The documentary, which is directed by Smriti Mundhra and created by Armaan Jain, features some of the biggest names in Bollywood as well as the other close family members of the Kapoor family, including the Jains and the Nandas. The one-hour one-minute documentary was a mix of nostalgia and bonding over food. From showing never-before-seen videos and photos of the family spending time together, to recalling their memories with the Mera Naam Joker actor, it was heartwarming to see the family together.

Being as invested in Bollywood as I am, the charm Raj Kapoor oozed still left me spell-bound. The way he spoke, his blue eyes sparkled with mischief, his bond with his family and other acquaintances from the film industry, made me wish I were born in that era to experience it all firsthand. There truly never will be another superstar like him.

Watching the family bond over home-cooked meals, which have been in their family for centuries, felt good. However, one person who was missing from the equation was Alia Bhatt. According to Armaan Jain’s recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actress couldn’t be a part of the documentary as she had “prior commitments to shoot.” He added, “I might sound filmy, but like Raj Kapoor said, ‘work is worship’.”
