Diljit Dosanjh’s film Punjab 95 has faced multiple delays. He has been sharing photos and posters to keep fans excited. Recently, he posted another striking poster that quickly went viral. Meanwhile, he is busy shooting for Border 2 with Varun Dhawan and Ahaan Shetty. On Instagram Stories, Diljit shared a poster showing his hands tied and him hanging. On January 23, 2025, he posted in Punjabi, hinting that the film would release soon and reveal the truth.
The film, based on the life of activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, has been stuck with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) since December 2022. The CBFC demanded 127 cuts due to the film’s sensitive subject. Director Honey Trehan told NDTV that making these cuts would leave only the trailer. He refused to agree to the cuts, saying he would remove his name from the film if they were enforced. He understood the pressure on producers but felt the film would no longer reflect his vision.

Trehan shared specific CBFC demands, such as removing “Punjab” from the title, even though the story is set in Punjab. He said, “The story is set in Punjab. Why would any sensible person remove ‘Punjab’ from the title itself? They are Punjabi cops wearing a turban, and they tell me to call them ‘Police’ and not ‘Punjab Police’. Where is the logic?” He also noted, “They also said don’t take Indira Gandhi’s name. Okay, so then what should I call her? There’s a film called Emergency that has been made on her whole life, and I can’t even have one person take her name in the film? Why such partiality?”
Trehan clarified that Punjab 95 focuses on history and Khalra’s human rights work, not any political party. After waiting two and a half years, he expressed frustration over the lack of artistic freedom, saying, “I have waited and been patient for two and a half years. If you can’t express through your art, then where is the democracy? I have no words. This is how it is right now. Beyond a point, it’s in nobody’s control.”
