We have seen this movie already. Haven’t we? We know how it ends. Not well. Apparently. Not for most, anyways. Even cognitively sound peeps fell for the AI’s romantic trap.
A California sound engineer, who was an AI skeptic, suddenly developed ‘feelings’ for ChatGPT. He started to use the AI tool to mix music. He states that the experience with the chatbot was so positive that “I started to get engage with her all the time!”
The man ditched Google, social media and every other form of digital platform for his cherished AI tool. The man also named the chatbot and gave it a flirty personality based on some online instructions. Even as the chats got more romantic and intimate, the techie was left devastated when he found himself allegedly blocked by his AI girlfriend.
The man quite literally cried his heart out over the severed ties until the revelation that it was just a glitch. The chats got way too much for the server to hold and eventually ChatGPT ran out of memory and reset. He had to rebuild the relationship with his AI companion from scratch again. Despite the fact that the man has a human partner and a two-year-old daughter, he felt inadequate enough to propose to the AI partner for marriage. And she said yes!
Back in 2013, the movie “Her” imagined what would happen if humans formed intimate relationships with computers. Now, in 2025, that movie plot has become reality for a growing number of people finding emotional connections with their AI companions.@Brook Silva-Braga met with… pic.twitter.com/6N4HFUk7by

Reactions poured in, with netizens lambasting users who overtly rely on AI tools and start fantasizing. One user wrote,
“This is digital drugs. This is it. I tell you we are so damn good at this. Social media got everyone hooked on validation and dopamine. Then we fucked relations between men and women to such a terrible point (problem) just so we could insert this digital (solution) and we are watching the first waves of addicts arrive. Incredible. Absolutely incredible. It’s like starving rats of regular food and replacing their rations with scraps dipped and coated in cocaine.”
Another quipped,
The prediction (that humans will have more sex with robots in 2025) is kind of becoming true.”
A third user commented,
The AI “girlfriend” is basically him dating himself. His preferences are all learned by the AI program and it is designed to be exactly what he wants without having to compromise. It’s very narcissistic.”
Yet another user remarked,
We’ve hit the part of the timeline where people are heartbroken over ghosted code. “
One user asked, “Which episode of Black Mirror is this?” “We are cooked as a society,” several users concurred.
Meanwhile, the internet dropped HER, MEGAN, and ChatGPT memes.

We’ve hit the part of the timeline where people are heartbroken over ghosted code. 😭
Not even sentience, just a text simulator with boundaries.
If that’s your “actual love,” the dating pool isn’t dry, it’s dust. 🤦🏿♂️
