Chamak The Conclusion Review: Manoj Pahwa’s Charismatic Persona Steals The Show, Paramvir As Kaala Fails To Impress

The much-awaited sequel to Sonyliv’s Chamak (2023) is finally here. Directed by Rohit Jugraj, the Paramvir Singh Cheema starrer released on the OTT platform on Friday, April 4, 2025. Inspired by the brutal killings of Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife Amarjot Kaur, the show focuses on Kaala (Cheema), who after returning to India from Canada discovers that his real father Tara Singh (Gippy Garewal) and his mother (Sharan Kaur), were killed during their live show.

Chamak, the first instalment of the six-episode show, focused on a runaway rebel Kaala’s return to India and finding a footing for himself in the Punjabi music industry. Along the way he befriends Jazz (Isha Talwar), who falls in love with him. He also comes across his father’s four friends, who had founded a music company ‘Teeja Sur,’ which is controlled by Pratap Deol (Manoj Pahwa) and his son Guru (Mohit Malik).

The second instalment starts off just where the last episode of the last season ended. It is shown that as the cops beat up Kaala questioning him about who his drug dealer is, Pratap makes an entry and bails him out. He gets emotional upon seeing his best friend Tara’s son alive and well. As drops Kaala at his house, he goes to visit Baldev, who was also a part of their friend group, and slams him for trying to hurt Kaala. He warns him to accept him.

As the story progresses, Kaala comes to know that his father was killed because of Pratap’s orders, Tara Singh, and sets out to avenge his parents’ death along with his hitman friend Jagga (Prince Kanwaljit Singh), who wants to kill Baldev. Did Pratap really kill Tara to just take over Teeja Sur? What happens to Jazz and Kaala, who starts to become an internal part of Teeja Sur, as he gains more and more popularity? Will Jagga and Kaala succeed in their plans? Forms the crux of the story.

While the first installment gained much popularity for flawlessly blending songs from different genres like Punjabi folk, fusion, Desi Hip-Hop, and Rap among many others. Jugraj makes sure to continue it in the second installment, apart from introducing more songs, they stick to the roots by bringing back songs from the last season.

One person who steals the show is most definitely Manoj Pahwa and Isha Talwar. While the former leaves the audiences impressed with his charismatic persona, the latter’s performance as a musician, who fights with drug addiction, due to failure in getting launched in the Punjabi music industry, definitely stands out. Another highlight of the season would be the relationship Pratap shares with his son Guru, who doesn’t approve of his son being gay.

Despite being the star of the show, Cheema, it seems like, falls short of truly expressing the anger required for someone who has lost their parents and wants to avenge them. His wide-eyed and slack-jawed expression fails to help the audience connect with him emotionally. Even the triumph he feels on his success, falls flat.

Directed by Rohit Jugraj, Chamak The Conclusion is currently airing on SonyLiv.
