The Cambodian commerce ministry recently informed traders, the Association of Freight Forwarders, Importers and the public that exporting goods to China now via the Vietnam-China border may become an issue due to severe bottlenecks there. Beijing informed Vietnam last month that foreign drivers would be barred from crossing its border from December 24.

China is Vietnam’s second-largest export market and its biggest source of imports.

According to a statement from the Vietnamese ministry of industry and trade, import and export activities at the Vietnam-China border have been severely congested, especially at the Lang Son and provincial border crossings in Quang Ninh.

In addition, some border crossings continue to suspend customs operations until further notice.

The ministry has informed the traders and associations to examine the possibility of finding alternate means of export to avoid risks and problems caused by congestion.
