Spider-Man: No Way Home has revived discussions about why The Amazing Spider-Man series featuring Andrew Garfield’s brilliant stint as the web-slinger didn’t get another sequel. He was inarguably great as Spidey and his return in the latest flick alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire is proof. And yet Sony, the studio behind the films didn’t proceed with a third film. However, a deleted scene with an alternate ending from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that had the potential of setting up a threequel has re-emerged. And it’s an absolute tearjerker.
A now-viral video featuring Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker contains what looks like an alternate ending that was cut from the second film. The deleted scene reveals Peter at a graveyard after the death of his girlfriend Gwen Stacy (played by Emma Stone). The heartbreaking scene is made even more emotional when he’s visited by his father Richard Parker who was presumed dead. What ensues is a total feelfest as he tries to come to terms with the shocking revelation. Garfield delivers a stunning performance as expected and it’s crazy how it hasn’t received enough attention.
The scene cuts to another sequence featuring Stone’s Gwen and ends with Peter mostly likely reflecting on donning the Spidey suit again. Check out the alternate ending (one of many shared by Sony) in question here:
Yeah, they did our boy Andrew Garfield wrong!
Fans who were already mad about The Amazing Spider-Man‘s cancellation are now understandably furious. “It will never fail to blow my mind on why they removed this, millions of people still don’t even know this exists! Powerful acting by Garfield,” a user wrote in the comments section of the viral YouTube video.
After the release of No Way Home, the actor has revealed a tonne of new information including the gala time he had lying to fans and Emma Stone about his appearance and details of a wholesome improvised scene. He also shared that he’d love to play the character again if given the opportunity. In more recent Andrew Garfield news, the actor has been making headlines for his performance in tick, tick… BOOM! which has garnered significant awards chatter including a Golden Globes win and nominations that will likely pour in during the award season.
