Ananya Panday Calls Herself A ‘Dharma Kid’; Says In 2000s Films ‘Women Were Shown To Be More Real’



Bollywood actress Ananya Panday is one of the most sought-after actresses in the Hindi entertainment industry. Despite her rough start and facing severe backlash, she is slowly establishing herself as a credible actor. She recently sat down for a chat with Lilly Singh and recalled how she grew up watching Dharma films during the 2000s and how it impacted her.

She also showered actress Konkona Sen Sharma with praises for her performance in Luck By Chance and Wake Up Sid. Quoted by News18, Panday said, “I mean, I’m such a Dharma kid, so I’m only thinking about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… In the early 2000s, when I was four or five, these films had started coming up where women were shown to be more real.”

Opening up about the portrayal of real and relatable women in films like Luck By Chance, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, and Wake Up Sid, Ananya praised Konkona for playing a normal girl. She said, “There was Luck By Chance, Konkana’s character in that. Konkana’s Wake Up Sid. She was just a real girl. She wasn’t glamoured up, and she didn’t say the right things. She didn’t do the right things, she didn’t get the boy right in the start of the film. She wasn’t a beauty queen, she was just a normal girl.”

During the interview, she also shed light on facing constant criticism from the netizens, especially regarding the undergoing the knife allegations. She expressed that since she is “growing up” and her “body is filling out,” she is often trolled. Coming across messages like, “Oh, there’s no way. She’s got her butt done. She’s got this done.”

The 26-year-old actress added, “You can never win. It’s constant… anything you do. No matter what shape you are, no matter what size you are. People will constantly have something to say and criticise… especially with women. I don’t feel like they do that to men at all.”

On the work front, Ananya Panday is all set to begin shooting for the second season of her Prime Video web series Call Me Bae. She was last seen in Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan starrer Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story Of Jallianwala Bagh.
