Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming workplaces by performing tasks that once required human effort, causing concerns over job losses. Companies like TCS and Accenture have already laid off thousands of workers, highlighting these fears. Tech billionaire Elon Musk predicts that AI will eventually replace all jobs, but he suggests this shift could free humans to pursue more meaningful and leisurely activities.

Elon Musk responded to a report on X about Amazon planning to replace over 1,60,000 workers with AI and robots by 2027, stating bluntly, “AI and robots will replace all jobs.” His comment reflects his deep understanding of technology trends and the future of automation in the workforce.

Despite the alarming statement, Musk framed this shift as an opportunity rather than a threat. He suggested that humans could break free from mandatory work, comparing it to “growing your own vegetables instead of buying them from the store.” Musk is actively working on AI through xAI’s software company, Macrohard, while Tesla continues to develop the Optimus robot.

Musk envisions a future where humans enjoy “universal high income,” allowing people to sustain their lifestyles without working. He believes AI taking over jobs could make work optional, providing a scenario where humans can focus on personal growth, creativity, and leisure instead of labor. He previously mentioned at VivaTech 2024 that there’s an “80 percent chance” of such a future with no shortage of goods or services.
Personal robots may play a key role in this vision. Musk suggested that every person could have their own robot assistant, likened to R2-D2 and C-3PO from Star Wars, helping with daily tasks and further reducing the need for human labor while enhancing quality of life.
