Samsung Working on Clamshell Foldable With Dual External Displays: Report

Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 in July 2025 alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, introducing its latest flagship clamshell foldable to global markets, including India. The device features a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display, continuing Samsung’s push to make the outer screen more functional for quick tasks, notifications, and apps without opening the phone.

Over the years, the company has steadily refined the design of its Galaxy Z Flip series to improve usability and productivity through the cover screen. A new patent now suggests that Samsung could be exploring another clamshell foldable concept with two external displays, potentially offering even greater functionality when the device is folded.

A recent patent published on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) website suggests that Samsung may be developing a new clamshell-style foldable smartphone. The filing, spotted by 91Mobiles, includes several diagrams that hint at the possible design of the device. While the document does not reveal the product’s name or detailed specifications, it indicates that the company is exploring a new approach to the outer display on its foldable phones.

According to the diagrams in the patent filing, the device could feature a circular cutout on the front panel that may house a secondary cover display positioned next to the primary outer screen. The design also appears to include a dual rear camera setup along with an LED flash. Additionally, the sketches show two physical buttons placed on opposite sides of the handset, though their exact functions remain unclear.

If the concept eventually makes its way to a commercial device, it would mark a notable shift from the design of the current Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. The existing model features a single 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover screen on the upper flap. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 was launched in India in July 2025 with a starting price of Rs. 1,09,999 for the base 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant, and is available in Blue Shadow, Coral Red, Jetblack, and Mint colour options.

To recap, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 features a 6.9-inch Full-HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits. The handset is powered by Samsung’s 3nm Exynos 2500 chipset and offers up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. For photography, it carries a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor, while a 4,300mAh battery powers the device.
