Team India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC)for breaching the Code of Conduct during the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan, while fellow pacer Arshdeep Singh has been cleared of similar allegations.
According to the ICC’s statement, Bumrah violated Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to actions “contrary to the spirit of the game.” The incident took place during the high-intensity final when Bumrah dismissed Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf and celebrated with an animated “plane gesture”, a moment that quickly went viral on social media.

The Gesture That Sparked Debate
The gesture, which saw Bumrah extend his arms like airplane wings, was seen by many as a symbolic response to Rauf’s earlier celebrations in the tournament, notably when the Pakistani pacer mimicked a jet after dismissing an Indian batter in the group stage. The ICC match referee deemed Bumrah’s act as “provocative” but noted that it did not warrant a severe penalty.
As a result, Bumrah was handed one demerit point and received an official warning. He admitted to the charge, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing.
Arshdeep Singh Found Not Guilty
Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh was investigated for an alleged breach of Article 2.6, related to using obscene or offensive gestures, but the ICC cleared him of any wrongdoing after reviewing video evidence. The governing body stated that his conduct “did not meet the threshold for sanction,” and therefore no action would be taken.
Other Sanctions in the Same Match
The Asia Cup final saw multiple disciplinary actions. Pakistan’s Haris Rauf was fined and handed a two-match suspension for aggressive behaviour towards Indian batters, while India’s Suryakumar Yadav received a fine for excessive celebration following a dismissal.
High Emotions, High Stakes
India’s thrilling win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final was celebrated nationwide, but it also underscored the intensity and emotional charge of Indo-Pak encounters. The ICC’s swift response aims to reinforce the message that even in passionate moments, player conduct must align with the spirit of the game.
Bumrah’s warning serves as a reminder that gestures, however harmless they may seem, are closely watched on cricket’s biggest stages.
