Netizens Laud Karnataka Government’s Rs 200 Movie Ticket Cap Proposal; Call It A ‘Much Needed Move’



The Karnataka government issued a draft notification proposing amendments to the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) Rules 2014. The proposal reportedly introduces a cap of Rs 200 on cinema tickets across the state. On Tuesday, the news made headlines, leaving netizens with mixed reactions, while some lauded the effort, others questioned what would happen with big-budget films.

Quoting a report by the news agency, ANI, the Karnataka government’s draft has set a maximum ticket price for movies at Rs 200 per show. This will include entertainment tax for all theatres, including multiplexes, irrespective of language. According to the procedure, the draft will be published for public input, and any objections or suggestions are invited within fifteen days before the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
