Road Minister Gadkari Proposes Replacing Honking With Tabla Bansuri; Internet Says ‘Public Ko Dholak Samajh Rakha Hai’

At the 78th Foundation Day celebration of Navbharat Times, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, revealed the government’s plan to make honking horns redundant. He stated that the proposal is to introduce a regulation that will require vehicle horns to mimic traditional Indian instruments, including tabla and bansuri (flute), etc., that are pleasant to the ears. The minister saab also included the harmonium in the list, which has its origin in France. But koi na, the outcome of the law would be that the traffic would be more mellifluous than machhi bazaar it is at rush hour.

Reactions poured in, with users reminding that their school bus drivers and padosi bhaiya have always been a step ahead with the ‘Dhoom Macha le,’ horn back in the mid 2000s. Taking a jibe at the minsiter’s bizarre proposal, one user wrote, “Andher nagari chaupat raja.” “Dholak he sahi rahega. Vaise bhi public ko dholak samajh rakha hai,” remarked another user. Yet another netizen quipped, “Bas karo Gadkari saheb, Itna experiment mat karo. Apni gaadiyo me aag lagane par majboor na karo..” “Gadkari ji ab road ko stage banane par tule hain!” the user added in jest.

Another user remarked

The BJP government has completely lost the plot. Now they want car horns to sound like tabla, dholak, and flute. Turning India into a circus, one bizarre law at a time.
