1 Hotels has officially opened its first property in continental Europe with the debut of 1 Hotel Copenhagen, a nature-led reimagining of the historic Skt. Petri. Located at Krystalgade 22 in the heart of the city, the hotel brings the brand’s mission-driven ethos to one of the world’s most eco-conscious capitals.
“Copenhagen has always held a special place in my heart,” Barry Sternlicht, founder of 1 Hotels and chairman of Starwood Hotels, said in a statement. “There’s an ease and beauty to life here—how the Danes live with a true creative spirit, warmth, tolerance and hospitality, how design and sustainability are seamlessly woven into the culture, and how nature is embraced in the most effortless, elegant way. This city reflects everything 1 Hotels stands for, so opening a hotel here isn’t just a milestone. It feels deeply personal. It’s like finding a kindred spirit in a city.”
A Nature-Led Nordic Transformation
The hotel’s design honors the building’s architectural heritage while introducing a biophilic sensibility. Guests will find handcrafted Danish furnishings, sculptural lighting and lush greenery throughout—from trees rising in the atrium to terraces filled with herbs and wildflowers. A dramatic living wall anchors the façade, while an onsite bee hotel highlights the role of pollinators in urban ecosystems.
“Design is everything in Copenhagen, but it’s never just about how something looks,” Starwood Hotels CEO Raul Leal added in a statement. “It’s about the way it functions, the way it feels, the materials used, and the story it tells. With 1 Hotel Copenhagen, we’ve created a space that speaks to that holistic approach—honoring Danish craft, integrating local materials, and embracing biophilic design in a way that’s uniquely Nordic.”
Rooms and Wellness
The property offers 252 rooms and 30 suites defined by organic textures and natural light. Reclaimed wood, woven textiles, mineral-based paints and locally inspired details anchor the interiors. Bathrooms feature stone basins, rainfall showers and leafy accents, while in-room amenities include yoga mats and bath products by Bamford.
Guests have access to the Field House Gym, open 24/7 with personal training and classes, while a Bamford Wellness Spa is set to open in 2026.

A Commitment to Sustainability
Behind the scenes, the hotel implements eco-friendly initiatives including composting, repurposed furnishings, energy-efficient systems and the “1 Less Thing” program, which donates gently worn clothing to Copenhagen-based charity JunkFood. Collaborations with local partners such as ByBi, an urban beekeeping social enterprise, and Koji Copenhagen, a fermentation lab, further reflect the hotel’s community-driven ethos.
