Work Load – Full-Time vs. Over-Time


When looking for a job, one of the first issues you should consider is whether you want to work part-time or full-time. Maybe you’ve been working part-time for a long time, and your boss has approached you for a full-time job. If you have to support a larger family, then you need to do it over time.

Workload management is the process of dividing work among your team members while analyzing their usage and performance. This also includes calculating individual KPIs and assigning tasks to employees who have the skills to complete them.

Full Time

Full-time employment is defined by the IRS and the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare) as anyone who works 30 hours or more per week or 130 hours or more per month. The United States Department of Labor does not determine full employment. “Full-time” is defined by the Office of Labor Statistics as work of 35 hours or more per week.

Over Time

All hours that an employee works outside of their normal working hours are called overtime. The overtime pay rate varies depending on the company and the circumstances of overtime, such as the number of hours worked.

One and a half times and double-time are the most common overtime rates. Overtime pay is calculated as follows: Hourly wage multiplied by 1.5 times overtime worked. Overtime is generally defined as more than 30 hours per week.

Full Time Vs. Over Time

Here I have listed some scheduled differences between full-time and overtime. Take a look at them to get a proper understanding:

1. Schedule:

Full-time employees’ work schedules are generally more flexible. Your employees can work four eight-hour days a week. They could work three ten-hour days the following week.

On the other hand, overtime schedules are more rigid. From Monday to Friday, employees typically work from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Four ten-hour days are sometimes included in an over-stamp work plan. In any case, an overloaded work schedule requires the availability of an employee throughout the week.

2. Pay:

One of the most important differences between part-time and full-time working hours is remuneration. Nor is it just a matter of how much each employee is paid (a part-time employee can earn as much as a full-time employee). Rather, it is a question of how that remuneration is determined.

3. Tax:

Employees who work part-time and full-time are taxed in the same way. You must deduct income tax and deductions from the Federal Premium Insurance Act (FCIA) from each employee as an employer. Unemployment taxes and workers’ compensation benefits are also your responsibility.

4. Job Security:

An over-time job is considered safer by many employees than a full-time job. They see it that way because it is believed that full-time employees ear6+n less money, receive fewer benefits, have less training, and are easier to replace.

5. Hours:

As we have discussed before a full-time job has almost 30 working hours per week. On the other side, the overtime job has more than 30 to 40 working hours per week.

So, it means overtime demands more labor rather than full-time employment.
