This article contains spoilers for What If episode 7 “Thor Were An Only Child?”
Marvel really went like ‘no more killing Avengers, let’s throw a party!’ That’s right, after the dark and grim episodes about zombie apolcalypses and a world where Iron Man never existed, the chairs above have decided to drop the ball for the funnest episode of the series yet. An boy, is it a party! For a change it’s not the character arc or the undelying emotions because in the seventh episode of Marvel’s first animated series What If…? have re-imagined a world where Thor and Loki don’t grow up together!

A world where Thor is more a party prince than the God of Thunder. In fact, he is the only Odinson because Odin never adopted Loki. Instead he returned him to his family the Frost Giants and with no Loki to challenge him, Thor has grown up without having to be the big and good brother that we know him to be! And since there was no God Of Mischief, creating a mess, he ultimately ended being a spoilt brat who has no ambitions of filling his ‘boring’ father’s shoes as the king of Asgard!
So much so that when Odin goes to sleep and Frigga takes off, Thor who is supposed to study the nine realms, manages to trick Heimdall and lands on Earth to throw the biggest bash that earth has seen! There’s Korg, Nebula, Drax, folks from Asgard and they all want to have fun. Even Howard the Duck makes an appearance. Only problem is that they create a big mess and while it is no Sokovia-level destruction, they are in no mood to stop having knocking Nick Fury unconsciousness right in the midst of the alien invasion that Jane Foster warned them about! Well, not exactly but you get my point.
But mind you, Loki is no absent! In fact, he is another guest on Thor’s biggest bash and while you’d expect them to be rivals given the history between Asgard and Jotunheim, they are, as Loki puts it “brothers from another mother!” And Loki as a Frost Giant is a sight one can’t easily forget! And although they aren’t siblings, one can’t get enough of their brotherhood and camaraderie as he arrives in Vegas with his pals. There is a scene where he steals Thor’s phone and tries to ask Jane if she has got a friend so they can double date. Interesting because while the show doesn’t imply that he is bisexual, it also doesn’t necessarily deny it!

I can’t believe we finally got Jotun Loki and he’s just living his best life as the Prince of Jotunheim without years of trauma and emotional pain and now being the happiest we’ve literally ever seen him. AND THEY WEAR EYELINER. pic.twitter.com/xWomwZx10A

But Thor and Jane are destined to be together again. Albeit their love story doesn’t have sparks flying, it is still cute to see them flirt and make plans of an inter-galactic dates and relationship. But just Jane is weak in his knees, doesn’t mean S.H.I.E.L.D will go easy on him! In fact, with Maria Hill goes straight for the beeper and summons Capatian Marvel to take care of Thor and his party antics. And she does, until she gets worried about carving a crater in the surface of the earth while trying to beat Thor who on the other hand, has no regard for historical monuments.
Name a better duo than Captain Marvel & Thor ✨🔨 pic.twitter.com/fXwSoKhebs

But before things could have gone out of hand, Jane take Darcy’s advice and calls his mother on him in the most relatable move ever. So, Frigga arrives to take her son’s case. But before that Thor manages to clean up and get his act together because who isn’t scared of their mother!
But just when one thought that Thor and Jane can go back to dating and all’s well that ends well, a portal opens and the show ends on another banging cliffhanger that introduces not just Vision but an evil Vision in an Ultron suit, armed with all of the infinity stones! I mean, who needs Thanos? Amrite?!

Parting note: The writers truly wasted Heimdall without utilising his powers and overseeing qualities. Also, Chris Hemsworth and Kat Dennings are damn fine voice actors!
