Twitter Stands Divided As Alia Bhatt’s New Manyavar Advert Gives A Modern Spin To The ‘Kanyadaan’ Ritual

0ne of India’s leading ethnic clothing brand, Manyavar, recently released a new advertisement featuring Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, but it seems to have irked the sentiments of many. The new commercial starring the young actress gives a modern spin to the traditional ‘Kanyadaan’ ritual, but its mixed reception has turned into a trending topic on the internet.

Despite the popular brand’s experiment to connect with today’s generation with their progressive thinking touched a few hearts, many slammed the advert for its anti-Hindu propaganda. While Alia, dressed in a beautiful bridal outfit, shares the modern views of a bride while questioning the conventional beliefs, the advert focuses on the concept of redefining the Hindu wedding ritual ‘kanyadaan’ with ‘kanyamaan’, but it seems to have hit the wrong chord with a few.

On the other hand, many netizens lauded the advert and hailed the new progressive thinking that it highlights. A few Twitter users have even applauded #Kanyamaan as the modern way of life while expressing their support to the advert that aims at respecting brides.

Meanwhile, Cadbury had recently re-released its popular 90s Dairy Milk advert in which they swapped the gender roles, and managed to hit the bull’s eye. Apart from hailing it as a masterstroke, millennials and Gen Z alike, praised the company for coming out with such a brilliant concept.
