It’s a good day for Indian content because the nominations for the International Emmy Awards 2021 are out and India has bagged 3 coveted nods. The nominations were announced yesterday by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and they have been rightly secured by the Sushmita Sen show Aarya, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vir Das. The Ram Madhvani directorial which brought back Sen’s acting prowess on the screen again and marked her comeback, earned a spot in the Best Drama Series category alongside El Presidente, Tehran and There She Goes.

In fact, the actress even took to social media to share the big news and congratulated the whole cast and crew for the feat and wrote, “To see INDIA on this list, fills my heart!!! Thank you wonderful people….your love & appreciation for #Aarya is the very soul of this celebration!!! This Team truly deserves it!!!” She even wished Siddiqui and Das on the momentous occasion.

Speaking of which, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor category for his Serious Men, directed by Sudhir Mishra. The Netflix film which is based on Manu Joseph’s 2010 novel by the same name is competing against names like Roy Nik for Normali, Christian Tappán for El Robo del Siglo (The Great Heist) and David Tennant for Des. The The story traces the life of Ayyan Mani played by Siddiqui, a middle-aged Dalit who is an assistant to a Brahmin astronomer at the Institute of Theory and Research in Mumbai. And while he has worked hard to be where he is, his caste catches up in most places and it is angst that connects with the viewer. Siddiqui, of course, is convincing as the protagonist who is also a father with a mission – To not let his son suffer the same fate.

The special was my love letter to India and this is just unbelievable.”

His special is up against Call my Agent – Season 4, Motherland: Christmas Special and Promesas de Campaña [Campaign Promises]. The special was dedicated for the country through Vir’s own experiences both big and small and embodied a whole variety of topics which lent itself to some iconic moments in the show. The special was produced by Das’ production house Weirdass Comedy.
