You can now get up to eight months of Xbox Game Pass subscription – for free.
The changes RBI made to international recurring payments. Let me explain.
In December 2020, RBI made significant changes to the Credit and Debit card payments work, to make them more secure for the user.
According to the new requirements, any new debit card issued by Indian Banks will have their international banking functionality disabled by default. Customers who need to make international transactions will have to ask their banks to enable the feature.
Additionally, recurring payments, such as subscriptions have also been overhauled, requiring users to ask express permission. These changes, although welcoming in terms of banking security, have led to disruptions.
Currently, new debit cards and credit cards do not work with both Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Unless you are already subscribed, services such as YouTube Premium are currently only available as prepaid plans, which can be paid through UPI.
On the other hand, some services such as Netflix and Steam Games have already switched to new requirements, minimizing disruptions. While many others, as mentioned above, haven’t.
Among the ones that aren’t meeting the new RBI guidelines is Microsoft. If you are currently subscribed to Xbox Game Pass or want to start a new subscription, you won’t be able to.
Therefore, Microsoft has decided to be nice and just offer the service for free until they figure the payments situation.

Existing subscribers have been notified via email that additional 8 months of subscription has been added to their accounts to minimize disruptions. New users get 7 months of free subscription to Xbox Ultimate, after paying for one month of either Ultimate, PC or Console plans.
While neither Google nor Apple have even bothered to notify their customers about the issues, the gesture from Microsoft is much appreciated.
